Director Matt Reeves has provided a significant update on the filming of The Batman 2. Regarding the highly anticipated follow-up to the 2022 DC film starring Robert Pattinson, Reeves shared that “the plan is to shoot next year” and they are “finishing up the script now.” Reeves also confirmed that “Colin [Farrell] will be part of the movie,” hinting that the forthcoming Penguin TV series will serve as an “entry point” for the next film and is “absolutely connected to where we leave things in the series.” Reeves also expressed a wish for “these stories to be a meditation on the way Gotham is the way it is,” adding, “It’s such a brutal place and we’re digging for the answers as to why these people’s lives are this way.” He explained that The Batman 2 will “dig into the epic story about deeper corruption, and it goes into places that he couldn’t anticipate in the first one.” This update follows comments from star Andy Serkis, who mentioned in June that production on the sequel is expected to begin in 2025, suggesting that the release might not happen before mid-2026.
