Ekta Kapoor charged for obscene depiction of minors in web series

Producer Ekta Kapoor and her mother Shobha Kapoor have been legally accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for displaying inappropriate scenes involving minors in the ALT Balaji web series Gandi Baat.

Mumbai Police have registered the case against Balaji Telefilm Limited, Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor at the MHB police station. The allegations are centred on season 6 of Gandi Baat, which streamed on the OTT platform between February 2021 and April 2021.

According to the complaint, the series included obscene scenes featuring minor girls. However, the specific episode in question is no longer available for streaming on the platform. The complaint claims that young actors, dressed in school uniforms, are depicted engaging in inappropriate and obscene conduct.

In compliance with the court's directive, police invoked various provisions of the POCSO Act, including sections 13 and 15, as well as section 67(a) of the Information Technology Act, the Women's Prohibition Act, and sections 292, 293, and 295(a) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The allegations aim to address the misuse of minors and ensure their protection from obscene material. As of now, there has been no official statement from ALT Balaji or the producers regarding the case.
