Demi Moore reflects on redefining beauty at 40 in Charlie’s Angels

Demi Moore is revisiting her groundbreaking beach scene from Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle (2003), which redefined beauty standards for women over 40. In an interview for Elle’s ‘Women in Hollywood’ portfolio, the actress revealed the impact of wearing a two-piece swimsuit in the action film, calling it “a big conversation” at the time. “I was 40, which meant I shouldn’t have a body that was desirable – that’s what I challenged,” Moore shared.

The actress, now 62, discussed how societal views on beauty have evolved but noted the need to reevaluate the perception of desirability for women post-menopause. “Women used to be relegated to the sidelines, made to be, in fact, almost asexual,” she stated, adding that her focus has always been on authenticity and truthfulness, which she hopes inspires others.

Moore also addressed similar themes in her recent film The Substance, where she plays a Hollywood star grappling with aging and self-worth. The film explores the internal conflict between fame, personal growth, and inner peace, a storyline Moore described as deeply moving.
