Actress Tabu made a striking debut as the enigmatic Sister Francesca in the fifth episode of Dune: Prophecy, HBO’s prequel series to Denis Villeneuve’s celebrated Dune franchise. The episode, which aired on December 16, introduced Tabu in a compelling new role that has already captured the attention of fans worldwide.
In a post shared on Instagram, Tabu revealed a still of her character, showcasing her majestic and solemn presence in the Dune universe. Dressed in a complex all-black outfit, complete with a veil, she exudes an aura of mystery and authority. Surrounded by other formidable characters, Francesca’s image reflects both, power and composure, fitting seamlessly into the expansive Dune cosmos.
Tabu, reflecting on her role in the show, spoke to the growing prominence of women in both front and behind the camera. She highlighted director Anna Foerster’s leadership and the significant female representation within the show, noting that the original title was Dune: Sisterhood.
"Being surrounded, feeling empowered, and a feeling that you're the ones running the show... it's really, really nice to see that happening," Tabu shared with BBC Asian Network News. "There's been a big change all over the world where women are taking centre stage in many places." She highlighted how the women she worked with on the series have mastered their craft and leadership abilities, calling it a "comforting, safe" experience that made her feel understood.
