Netflix dominates the Oscars 2025 with 18 nominations across six titles, led by Jacques Audiard's Emilia Pérez. The daring Spanish-language musical crime drama earned a record-breaking 13 nominations, becoming the most-nominated non-English language film in Academy history.
Set in Mexico City and premiering at Cannes, the film is nominated for Best Picture and Best International Feature Film, while Karla Sofía Gascón and Zoe Saldaña earned their first Oscar nominations for Best Actress in a Leading Role and Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Jacques Audiard also received nods for Best Director and Adapted Screenplay.
Despite its success, fans remain unimpressed by the movie and expressed confusion at the film being nominated for 13 categories. Reactions overwhelmingly echoed the sentiment that the film was a poor representation of the LGBTQ+ community and does not deserve to win over its other competitors in the categories.
Netflix’s other nominations include Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl for Animated Feature, The Six Triple Eight for Original Song, and Maria for Cinematography. The Oscars will air live on March 2, 2025, on ABC.
