The 97th Academy Awards made history at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, and on a show that ran nearly four hours and saw five movies earn multiple awards, Anora filmmaker Sean Baker was the big winner with a record of four Oscars for original screenplay, editing, director and best picture, tying Walt Disney’s record for most wins by one person in a single year. Mikey Madison of Anora took the prize for actress in a leading role.

Adrien Brody won actor in a leading role for The Brutalist, and A Real Pain’s Kieran Culkin and Emilia Pérez’s Zoe Saldaña triumphed in the supporting acting categories. Two-time Oscar winner Brody knows he “made the longest Oscars speech in history.” Days after his big win at the Oscars, he celebrated the unexpected milestone – with even more words. The Brutalist star and lead actor winner acknowledged his record on Instagram, telling fans in a video (which he promised and managed to keep fairly brief at 29 seconds), “I love you all.” He added, “You know I’m grateful. Keep smiling and I hope that this proves that dreams can come true and I hope your dreams come true as well.” Saldaña gave a memorable speech celebrating immigrants and the Oscars also paid tribute to first responders. Emilia Pérez added a second win for original song for “El Mal.” In addition to Brody, The Brutalist won for cinematography and original score. Taking home two Oscars apiece were Wicked (costume design and production design) and Dune: Part Two (sound and visual effects).

This was Conan O’Brien’s first time captaining the Oscars, but he’s hosted the Emmys twice, in 2002 and 2006, the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in 2013, the MTV Movie Awards in 2014 and nearly 4,000 nights of late-night television.
