Bilal Maqsood shared the sweetest moment of kindness by a Japanese person during his recent trip to Japan! Here’s what happened: the singer and his wife were at the Tokyo metro station, and during their first day in the city, they accidentally took the wrong exit, he narrated in an Instagram post.

“We quickly realised we’d turned the wrong way and tried to re-enter through the electronic gate, but it wouldn’t let us. After all the research and YouTube videos about Japan’s metro system, I never thought we’d get stuck, but it happened.” Stranded in a hallway that was “empty and almost desolate,” Maqsood noticed a Japanese man, over 60, with grey hair, dressed in jeans and a sweater.

“I hurried over, apologetically, convinced he wouldn’t speak English. And yes, he didn’t. But he understood we were stranded. With a warm smile and a hand gesture, he asked us to wait, repeating the gesture two or three times, then powered off and disappeared.”

Moments later, the man returned with a station officer in tow who spoke fluent English. While the officer explained what Maqsood and his wife had to do to get to the correct station, their “rescuer stood by, hands at his sides, back slightly bent, smiling as if helping us was the highlight of his day.”

The Duur singer noted that the man did not have to stay and probably had a train to catch himself, but he waited nonetheless. Maqsood called it “one of the kindest human moments” of his life, and although he didn’t take a picture, he did share a sketch of the moment.
