PAKISTAN’S T20I PERFORMANCE IN 2025

The fourth edition of the ICC T20 World Cup will be held from 7 February to 8 March 2026, jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The 2009 champions, Pakistan, will take part in the event under the leadership of all-rounder Salman Ali Agha.

In terms of preparations for the shortest format of the game, the year 2025 proved to be a very busy one for the national cricket team. In this regard, let us update you with the facts and figures.

In 2025, the Pakistan cricket team played a total of 34 T20 Internationals across five bilateral series and three tournaments. All-rounder Salman Ali Agha led the team in all these matches.

The national side reached the finals of all three tournaments, winning the title twice, while suffering a defeat against India in the Asia Cup final. Pakistan won three of the five series and lost two.

Overall, Pakistan recorded 21 victories in 34 T20Is, while facing defeat in 13 matches. Let us first take a look at the performance of captain Salman Ali Agha. In 34 matches, he scored 625 runs at a strike rate of 115.31, including five half-centuries. He emerged as Pakistan’s second most successful run-scorer of the year, after Sahibzada Farhan.

Pakistan’s most successful batter in 2025 was opener Sahibzada Farhan, who amassed 771 runs in 26 matches at a strike rate of 133.62, including seven half-centuries.

The third most successful batter was Saim Ayub. The 23-year-old faced heavy criticism after being dismissed for a duck on seven occasions; however, he still managed to score 581 runs in 29 matches at a strike rate of 129.11.

Experienced Fakhar Zaman played 22 matches and scored 512 runs, including two half-centuries. Hasan Nawaz, who smashed an unbeaten 105 off 43 balls at Eden Park, Auckland on 21 January 2025, accumulated 457 runs in 25 matches at an impressive strike rate of 154.39.

Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Haris, who scored Pakistan’s second century of 2025, made 429 runs in 26 matches for Pakistan.

In the bowling department, left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz outshone everyone else. For the 31-year-old, 2025 proved to be his best year, as head coach Mike Hesson’s exceptional faith in him paid off. Mohammad Nawaz dismissed 36 batters in 26 matches at an average of 13.61. During the same period, he also contributed with the bat, scoring 362 runs at a strike rate of 138.16.

After Mohammad Nawaz, the performance of all-rounder Faheem Ashraf, who hails from Kasur (Punjab), was also outstanding. In 28 matches, he scored 224 runs at a strike rate of 141.77 and also claimed 24 wickets at an average of 21.12.

Saim Ayub also stood out with his all-round performances, particularly through his off-break bowling. The right-arm spinner took 21 wickets in 29 matches at an economy rate of 6.76.

Mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed claimed 28 wickets in 22 matches, bowling a total of 81.5 overs. His standout performance came on 4 September 2025 in Sharjah against the UAE, where he returned figures of 4 for 9 in four overs.

Shaheen Shah Afridi picked up 26 wickets in 21 matches, bowling 74.5 overs at an average of 21.38. Haris Rauf claimed 23 wickets in 15 matches, while left-arm fast bowler Salman Mirza took 16 wickets in 11 matches.

In 2025, Pakistan fielded a total of 29 players across 34 T20 Internationals. Hasan Nawaz and Mohammad Haris scored centuries for Pakistan, while eight batters collectively registered 24 half-centuries.

In bowling, Hasan Ali and Mohammad Nawaz produced five-wicket hauls, while Faheem Ashraf achieved four-wicket performances on two occasions, and Haris Rauf and Abrar Ahmed picked up four-wicket hauls once each.

Right-arm spinner Usman Tariq, who played two T20 matches in 2025, claimed a hat-trick with figures of 4 for 18 in four overs against Zimbabwe on 23 November.

In 2025, Mohammad Nawaz won the most Player of the Match awards for Pakistan with four, while Sahibzada Farhan earned three such awards.
