‘The Exorcist’ reboot to star Scarlett Johansson in the lead

Universal Pictures has officially dated its new reboot of The Exorcist, with the film scheduled to arrive in theaters in March 2027. The project is being written and directed by Mike Flanagan, the acclaimed filmmaker behind “The Haunting of Hill House”, “Doctor Sleep”, and “Midnight Mass”, marking his first entry into the iconic horror franchise.

The reboot will star Scarlett Johansson, making it her first leading role in a traditional horror film. She will appear alongside young actor Jacobi Jupe, who continues to emerge as a notable presence in genre projects. Flanagan has praised Johansson’s ability to deliver grounded, emotionally rich performances, signaling that the new film will focus heavily on character-driven storytelling in addition to supernatural terror.

Rather than serving as a direct sequel or remake, the upcoming “Exorcist” movie is being positioned as a fresh and radical new take on the franchise.
