Chris Pine has a message for new Star Trek leadership as franchise continues without him

Chris Pine is weighing in on the future of the Star Trek film franchise – even if that future doesn’t include him aboard the USS Enterprise. Speaking at the Sundance Film Festival during an interview, Pine addressed questions about Paramount’s new leadership and what lies ahead for the storied scifi series.

When asked what advice he might offer to the new bosses taking over the Star Trek universe, Pine delivered a classic and optimistic response, saying, “Advice? Have fun, good luck, live long and prosper.” The actor, who originated the role of Captain James T. Kirk in three films released between 2009 and 2016, made it clear that he’s currently in the dark about the direction of the franchise under its new creative team. “You probably know more than I do,” he joked when pressed for details about what comes next.

Recent reports indicate a new Star Trek movie is in development with writers and directors, but it will be a fresh story separate from the J.J. Abramshelmed reboot era that made Pine a household name. That means the actor may not return as Kirk if the project moves forward without the original ensemble.
