Nick Jonas details how daughter was resuscitated after premature birth

Nick Jonas has spoken about the circumstances surrounding the premature birth of his daughter, revealing that the child required resuscitation moments after arriving in the world.

The singer and his wife, actress Priyanka Chopra, welcomed their first child, Malti Marie, via surrogate in January 2022. During an appearance on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, Jonas explained that the baby was born far earlier than expected and weighed just one pound, 11 ounces.

“She came to the world under sort of very intense circumstances, which I've not really talked about ever,” he said. “But we were expecting her to arrive in April of the year she was born, and we got a call that it's gonna be sooner. These angels at the NICU kind of resuscitated her in that moment and got her taken care of really quickly and intubated and everything else.”

Jonas described the months that followed as an emotional period for the family. He shared that him and Chopra alternated 12-hour shifts at the hospital to remain with their daughter during her treatment. “But she fought every day for three and a half months,” he said. “And, you know, Malti slowly started to gain some weight. And after six blood transfusions, she was doing great, and we got to take her home.”
