Karachi: More than 1,500 male and female students were awarded degrees at the second convocation of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto University of Law (SZABUL). The ceremony was held on Monday at a local hotel.
The Governor of Sindh and Chancellor of the University, Muhammad Kamran Khan Tessori, was the chief guest at the ceremony. Distinguished guests included Justice (R) Abdul Qadir, Justice (R) Amir Raza Naqvi, Justice (R) Rafiq Agha, Justice (R) Nadeem Azhar Siddiqui, Justice (R) Salman Ansari, Justice (R) Rizwan Ali Doodani, Justice (R) Rukhsana, Justice (R) Arshad Noor, Chancellor of Jinnah University for Women Wajeehauddin Ahmed, President of Arts Council of Pakistan Muhammad Ahmed Shah, Secretary Arts Council Professor Ejaz Farooqi, Barrister Sarfraz Metlo (former President of Sindh High Court Bar Association), Advisor to the Provincial Ombudsman Syed Sharaf Ali Shah, the chairmen of Sukkur and Hyderabad Boards, well-known social leader and lawyer Zia Awan, as well as members of the Senate, Syndicate and Academic Council, faculty members, members of the legal community, parents, and other invited guests.
Vice Chancellor Justice (R) Kausar Sultana Hussain, in her address, said that the ceremony symbolizes not only the awarding of degrees but also the culmination of continuous academic effort, perseverance, and professional preparation. She stated that the university remains committed to producing graduates equipped with legal expertise, ethical foundations, and research capabilities.
She said the university’s notable academic progress is clear evidence of its institutional strength and firm commitment to quality education. At this convocation, more than 1,500 students were awarded degrees in LLB, LLM, BBA, BS Criminology, and PhD programs, making it one of the largest graduating batches in the university’s history. Additionally, the launch of MS and PhD programs in Social Sciences marks an important step toward academic expansion and interdisciplinary development, further strengthening the university’s research vision.
The ongoing infrastructure development at the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Campus in Korangi represents a significant step toward institutional improvement. Around 85% of the academic and administrative blocks are nearing completion, while financial support is also being received under the Higher Education Commission’s PSDP projects. Plans for hostels, research institutes, and a modern 516-seat auditorium reflect the university’s long-term academic vision.
Governor Sindh Muhammad Kamran Khan Tessori congratulated the graduating students on achieving this important academic milestone and praised their hard work, perseverance, and commitment to excellence. He also paid special tribute to the role of parents, stating that their sacrifices, continuous support, and prayers are a major reason behind this success. He described the occasion as a moment of joy for families.
He also appreciated the services of teachers and faculty members, saying that teachers are the builders of the nation, who strengthen not only institutions but also the foundations of society through their academic guidance and character building. The Governor also praised the university’s role in promoting legal higher education in Sindh and assured his support for further strengthening educational institutions in the future.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of medals among high-achieving students and a renewed commitment to academic excellence and institutional development.
