Sony Group is increasing global prices of its PlayStation 5 lineup, marking its second hike within a year as surging memory chip costs strain supply chains.

In the U.S., the standard PS5 will now cost $649.99, up by $100, while the Digital Edition rises to $599.99 and the premium PS5 Pro to $899.99. The PlayStation Portal will also see a price jump.

The increase reflects growing pressure across the tech industry, where demand for AI infrastructure has redirected memory chip supply toward high-margin data-center use, leaving consumer electronics more expensive to produce.

Similar price adjustments are rolling out in Europe and Japan. Analysts warn the hikes could slow growth in the gaming market, already showing signs of weakness. Even Epic Games has pointed to sluggish console sales as a factor behind recent job cuts.

Sales of the PS5 have also dipped, falling 16% year-on-year during the holiday quarter, highlighting the challenges facing the console market as costs rise and demand softens.
