Billie Eilish’s recent comments on the relationship between meat consumption and animal welfare have prompted widespread debate online. The singer, who has long advocated for veganism, made the remarks during an interview with Elle when asked to share a strongly held opinion. “Y’all not gonna like me for this one,” she said before stating, “Eating meat is inherently wrong.”
She continued, “Two things cannot coincide. ‘I love animals, I love all animals so much,’ and ‘I eat meat.’” She added, “You can’t do both. Sorry. You can eat meat! Go for it! You can love animals. But you can’t do both.”
Eilish, who was raised vegetarian and later adopted a vegan lifestyle, has previously spoken about her views on the animal agriculture industry.
Her latest comments quickly generated mixed reactions across social media. Some critics described her stance as “very privileged”, arguing that dietary choices are influenced by access, education and personal circumstances. Others pointed out that adopting a vegan lifestyle can require resources and knowledge that may not be available to everyone.
