Goldie Hawn explains Hollywood hiatus: I want roles that make me say ‘Oh my God’

Goldie Hawn has explained her decision to step back from acting in recent years, citing a desire for meaningful work and a change in life priorities, according to People.

The 80-year-old actress, whose career spans decades of film and television, said she has not appeared in a major project since 2020’s The Christmas Chronicles 2.

She emphasised that her absence from the screen has been intentional rather than a lack of opportunity.

“It's about the content,” Goldie told People in an interview. “I've read a lot of shows, a lot of scripts that I didn't like or I didn't think I'd fit. The one thing about acting is that I've done it, and I had a great career, and I honour that.”

Hawn said her decision to reduce her acting commitments reflects a broader perspective on life and personal growth. “Doing the same thing over and over again for your whole life is not as interesting to me. And I decided at probably 55 or something. I knew that there was more out there to learn and to do,” she noted. Despite her break, Hawn indicated she remains open to returning to acting under the right circumstances. “I would love to get a material that could actually be like, ‘Oh my God, I want this so bad,’” she explained. “But I haven't come across it.”
