Lahore's renowned tradition of hospitality was on full display as members of the Independent Lawyers Group (Asma Jahangir Group) concluded a significant five-day official visit to the provincial capital, strengthening professional ties and reaffirming their commitment to the principles that have long defined Pakistan's progressive legal movement.

The delegation received a warm welcome from the leadership and members of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), the Lahore High Court, and the District Judiciary of Lahore. The visit provided an opportunity for meaningful interaction among legal professionals while highlighting the spirit of unity that continues to shape the country's legal fraternity.

For decades, the Independent Lawyers Group, popularly known as the Asma Jahangir Group, has played a prominent role in advocating for the rule of law, constitutional supremacy, and the independence of the judiciary in Pakistan. The group's efforts have extended beyond constitutional causes to include the welfare, professional development, and institutional protection of lawyers nationwide.

One of the most notable moments of the visit was a grand dinner reception hosted at the Four Points by Sheraton, Lahore. The event brought together hundreds of Advocates of the Supreme Court of Pakistan from Punjab and other parts of the country, reflecting the growing sense of solidarity within the legal community.

The gathering also served as an important political milestone for the legal fraternity, as the Independent Lawyers Group formally unveiled its panel of candidates for the upcoming Supreme Court Bar Association Elections 2026-27. The announcement marked the beginning of a new phase in the group's efforts to continue its legacy of democratic leadership within the country's premier bar association.

The candidates, who were present at the ceremony, collectively pledged to uphold the ideals associated with the Asma Jahangir Group and to work towards strengthening legal institutions while protecting the interests of lawyers across Pakistan.

The announced leadership panel includes Syed Amjad Shah, Advocate Supreme Court, as the candidate for President from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; Hazrat Said, Advocate Supreme Court, for Vice President from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; Jam Asif Mehmood Laar, Advocate Supreme Court, for Vice President from Sindh; Muhammad Yasin Bhatti, Advocate Supreme Court, for Vice President from Punjab; Muhammad Arif Awan, Advocate Supreme Court, for Secretary from Punjab; Saira Khalid Rajpoot, Advocate Supreme Court, for Additional Secretary from Islamabad; and Rai Azhar Kharal, Advocate Supreme Court, for Finance Secretary from Islamabad.

The panel for the Member Executive Committee (MEC) includes Syed Azizuddin Kakakhel and Kashif Jan from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; Arshad Mobin Ahmed, Ejaz Ahmed Awan, and Sofia Noureen Chaudhry from Sindh; Ahmed Masood Gujjar from Punjab; and Sardar Ashiq Khan Baloch representing Multan and Bahawalpur. The group noted that consultations regarding candidates from Balochistan are ongoing and that an announcement will be made in due course.
