The long-awaited Heat 2 adaptation is reportedly moving closer to production, with Christian Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio expected to lead the cast in key roles from Michael Mann's acclaimed crime saga.

According to sources, production on Heat 2 is currently scheduled to begin in November after years of development. The report states that deals for Bale and DiCaprio have either been finalized or are in their final stages, making their involvement all but confirmed.

The casting update also reveals which characters the actors are expected to portray. Bale will reportedly take over the role of Vincent Hanna, the determined LAPD homicide detective originally played by Al Pacino in the 1995 film. Meanwhile, DiCaprio is expected to portray Chris Shiherlis, the skilled criminal previously played by the late Val Kilmer, whose character survived the events of the original film.

Heat 2 is based on Michael Mann's bestselling novel of the same name, serving as, both a sequel and prequel to the original Heat. The story explores the aftermath of the first film while also delving into the earlier lives of its central characters.
