Welsh pop singer Bonnie Tyler has passed away at the age of 75 at a hospital in Portugal where she was being treated for an illness, the BBC reported. Known for hit songs including ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ and ‘Holding on for a Hero’, the singer was a three-time Grammy nominee.

The BBC noted that in May, the performer was placed into an induced coma after having emergency intestinal surgery in Portugal. Last month, her spokesperson said she was out of the coma but remained “very unwell and in intensive care”.

Tyler, who was born Gaynor Hopkins, grew up in Neath, a town in South Wales, and released her first single in 1977. Her biggest hit, ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’, was released in 1983 and topped charts in, both the UK and the United States. This year, the song crossed the one billion streams mark on Spotify. “I’m really happy, when you think about it, there’s only 8.3 billion people in the world,” she said.
