Gwyneth Paltrow responds to backlash over reported private dinner for Sam Altman

Gwyneth Paltrow has responded to the online backlash surrounding reports that she is hosting a private dinner for OpenAI CEO Sam Altman at her Hamptons home.

The controversy began after journalist Matthew Belloni reported in his newsletter that invitations were being prepared for an "off-the-record al fresco dinner" hosted by Paltrow in honour of Altman. The report quickly gained attention online, with social media users questioning the idea of the actress and entrepreneur hosting a private gathering for the billionaire technology executive.

Rather than issue a lengthy statement addressing the criticism, Paltrow appeared to lean into the internet reaction. On August 20, she shared a series of parody invitations on Instagram, each changing the supposed guest of honour.

The invitations referenced fictional and pop culture figures including M3GAN, Samantha Jones, SHREK and Jessica Rabbit. Another invitation referenced Chanty Beluga, a viral character created by comedian Courtney O'Donnell.

Paltrow accompanied the posts with a deliberately absurd caption: "We’re serving swordfish burritos, cheddar foam lattes on request."

The posts came after the reported invitation had circulated widely online. Some social media users criticised Paltrow over her reported connection to the event, while others questioned the broader relationship between celebrities, wealthy technology figures and the rapidly expanding artificial intelligence industry.
