Muslim hijabi makes history at British pageant

Around The World

Sara Iftekhar, a 20-year-old law student from Huddersfield, UK, made history last week by becoming the first woman in a hijab to compete in the Miss England pageant finals. After winning local beauty pageants, Sara recently faced off against 49 other contestants during the final round of the beauty competition.

She did not, however, win the overall prize, as the title of Miss England 2018 went to Alisha Cowie, a contestant from Newcastle; but she was the first Muslim woman wearing a hijab in the final, which makes it a historical event.
