A declaration of love - Priyanka Chopra & Nick Jonas

THE COUPLE BRING THEIR FAMILIES TOGETHER AT A HINDI CEREMONY CELEBRATING THEIR ENGAGEMENT

He bought the ring (and shut down Tiffany & Co. in London in the process) and asked the girl (on her 36th birthday), but Nick Jonas wasn’t officially engaged to Priyanka Chopra. Not until their parents were formally introduced and the two were blessed in a customary Hindu roka ceremony. So on Aug. 18, a month after Jonas, 25, proposed to Chopra in England, the pair finally confirmed their engagement after a celebration in Mumbai, that included their families.

Wearing traditional attire, Chopra chose a yellow Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla Couture shalwar suit, while Jonas selected a long kurta. Flanked by the actress’ mother, Madhu, her brother Siddharth and Jonas’ parents, Denise and Kevin Sr., the couple participated in a puja. After the ceremony, both Jonas and Chopra announced their happy news on social media.

“Future Mrs. Jonas My heart. My love,” the singer captioned a photo of the two of them in an intimate embrace that showed off the actress’ cushion cut diamond ring. Chopra concurred in her own post of the photo: “Taken. With all my heart and soul.”

The couple’s engagement comes just two months after they began dating in May, although a source says they’d gotten to know each other well since attending the Met Gala together in 2017. And while the trip to Mumbai, where Chopra has been filming the movie The Sky Is Pink, marks the first time their families have met, the couple had already introduced each other to their loved ones. In June, the actress spent time with the Jonas clan at a cousin’s wedding in New Jersey, and they travelled later that month to India, where they visited with Chopra’s mother. The actress “fit in so well with Nick’s friends and family,” said a source at the time. “She has this charisma and energy that draws you to her.” Even their 10-year age difference “is not a big deal to him whatsoever,” the source added. “If anything, it makes Priyanka even more attractive to him. Nick is an old soul and has always been very mature for his age.”

As wedding plans shift into high gear (no date has been announced), those close to the couple are excited for their new chapter together and hope it includes starting their own family one day. “I am a very ‘live in the today,’ maximum ‘live in the next two months’ kind of person,” Chopra recently told People. “But (in) 10 years I definitely want to have kids. That is, it’s going to happen in the next 10 years. Well, hopefully earlier than that. I’m very fond of children, and I want to be able to do that, “If their engagement is any indication, the couple will likely embrace a traditional handbook when it comes to their future as well. As Chopra wrote after their roka, ‘The only way to do this… with Family and God.”
