The Grinch is so pretty and sweet that it will give you cavities. Dr. Seuss’sHow the Grinch Stole Christmas!has gotten a more than a little makeover. There is more story and less rhymes, and there’s background reasons for Grinch’s anti socialness, that leads him to steal Christmas.

The story is the same, with an added slapstick and characters. Grinch (Benedict Cumberbatch) is a miserly grouch who lives at the top of the mountain, away from the only town close to him called Whoville. He lives with his dog Max – a dog of many traits, who loves Grinch and serves as his pet and butler.

Grinch is annoyed by the Christmas at the town each year but this year he has had enough and plans to steal Christmas and shut the town up. While in the town,Cindy Lou (Cameron Seely) wants to meet Santa and to ask him to take care of her mom (Rashida Jones).

This is the second version made for the big screen (an animated version was made by Bugs Bunny creator Chuck Jones). In 2000 Ron Howard made a live action version starring Jim Carrey which looked too scary to be enjoyed. This Grinch tinkers and adds to the original story and rhymes. While it is not the breakthrough Christmas movie, it serves it purpose as a newer and fresher addition to the lineup.
