SELF-CARE TIPS FOR THE WEEK

DO’S: GIVE THE DULL WEATHER A SHOCK TREATMENT WITH NAILS DIPPED IN BRIGHT AND HAPPY POP HUES.

Skin

I have dry skin and my nose is oily and dark compared to the rest of my face. It feels rough too. I also get pimples on my nose every few months.

Use a cleanser with a neutral pH to wash your face twice a day. Use rosewater on your nose, in addition to the cleanser, to remove oil and grime. Rosewater acts as a natural toner to unclog pores, remove any soap or makeup residue and tone down the oily look. Apply a tretinoin-based cream on your forehead and nose daily to reduce the oil secretion. Eat plenty of citrus fruits and take vitamin C supplements to prevent darkening. Do not rub your nose as friction will cause darkening.

Makeup

I hear burgundy lips are in vogue right now. However, I am very fair and I feel this lip colour looks too dark on me. What is the best way to wear this colour for someone with my complexion?

You can do a burgundy stain instead of a full application as the colour may be a bit too strong for your fair complexion otherwise. It is best to keep it muted and matte. Wear the lip colour like you normally would and tissue off the excess a few times till you get a deep red-coloured stain.

Hair

I have wavy, thin shoulder-length hair, I’m getting married soon, so thought I’d try out extensions. But I feel they weigh my hair down and look fake. How can I get my hair to look healthy with extensions?

It seems to me that you did not get the best quality extensions and they weren’t customised to your size. Make sure your stylist take a measurement. Secondly, do not get one single extension – get a few separate pieces with different lengths to attach them to different areas. Make sure the colour and texture matches your hair perfectly. Get detachable extensions, as your hair is fine and wearing them for long spells can be uncomfortable.
