Facebook: New video publishing tools launched

SOCIAL MEDIA NEWS

Facebook's adding a range of new features to Facebook Live, including Live rehearsals, replay trimming and simulcast Live broadcasting. On rehearsals, Facebook says that it will now provide an option for publishers to broadcast their Live videos to page admins and editors only, enabling them to test their ideas before sharing them to a larger audience. Live video creators have been calling for a rehearsal option for some time, enabling them to iron out the kinks before sharing with the world. It's a simple addition, but one that will no doubt prove popular with those looking to make best use of the option. The option will also be available via the Live API. Facebook is also extending the maximum duration of Live videos to eight hours when broadcasting via the API, up from the current four-hour limit.

LinkedIn updates assessment skills

LinkedIn is adding a new way for users to display their professional competencies, with a new 'Skill Assessments' option that will test your knowledge, and provide you with a badge to demonstrate your proven understanding. The option will facilitate expanded capacity to show your competencies, beyond Recommendations and Endorsements. According to LinkedIn, 69% of professionals think their skills are more important than college education when job-seeking, and more than 76% have been looking for a way for hiring managers to verify their skills, so that they can stand out from other candidates. The real test will come down to how much individual recruiters know about these assessments, and how much they trust the results.
