Dakota Johnson launches a podcast for survivors to share their stories

About one year ago, Dakota Johnson shared a phone number with the audience at the Global Citizen Festival. She posted the number on her Instagram, encouraging women to call and leave voicemails, sharing their stories of abuse, assault, and trauma. Now, she has turned those stories into a podcast called The Left Ear. Its website describes The Left Ear as an “introduction into non-judgmental listening, and a space of refuge and healing for the survivors who called in droves in order to finally share their stories.” Johnson announced the new show on her Instagram, writing, “I asked women and girls around the world to call me and leave a voicemail telling their stories of sexual violence, harassment, and gender based inequalities. I didn’t want to speak on their behalf; I wanted to listen to them. This is The Left Ear. A podcast where you will find the voicemails I listened to.” The website also provides resources for anyone feeling triggered or overwhelmed, as well as crisis response hotlines and links to various directories for mental healthcare, including therapists that specialise in serving minority communities.
