Sending messages to parents using electronic updates

Keeping parents in the loop is a top priority for schools, yet it’s one task that seems easier said than done. After all, how many times have schools sent out a message to parents only to find out that half of them (or sometimes more!) missed the memo completely? Most schools use newsletters to keep parents up-to-date but the problem with newsletters and circulars is, you’ll soon find that many parents will be unintentionally kept out of the loop. Paper updates can get lost in the shuffle, especially if children are responsible for bringing them home. However, a good initiative taken by many schools in Karachi is that they have started using electronic updates such as emails, or video messages. In this case, parents will receive the news directly from the source and they’ll be able to easily access the message any time. Plus, they’ll have a copy for their records in case they need to refer back for important details. They’ll even be able to save dates from the email right to their mobile calendars.

No background screening of government officials

Sohail Ayaz, a consultant in a planning and development project in the KP Government has been arrested after allegedly raping 30 kids. Previously, he was also employed with the global charity, Save The Children and was found to be a ringleader of an international child sexual abuse racket in UK. The same year, a UK court sentenced him to four years in prison and put forward an application for his deportation back to Pakistan. But what seems beyond belief is that he was able to land a job with the KP government as a consultant on governance, and that too at a fat salary. The story has opened a Pandora’s box of questions that need to be addressed and answered urgently! What was the process that allowed a registered sex offender to be employed by the Government of Pakistan? Are reference checks not important during hirings at government level? It’s highly disappointing and the government must do a proper background check before hiring a person on important posts.

A step closer to prosperity

Pakistan, last week, became the first country in the world to introduce a new typhoid vaccine in an effort to combat a drug-resistant strain of the potentially – fatal disease in the Sindh province. Health officials have reported an ongoing outbreak of an extensively drug-resistant typhoid fever that surged in the country in November 2016. The strain of Salmonella Typhi bacteria, which has become a so-called “superbug”, has infected around 11,000 people in the country, with the Sindh province facing the worst-hit. The typhoid conjugate vaccine (TCV) was introduced at an event in Karachi. Typhoid is a highly contagious disease that spreads quickly when people live in crowded neighbourhoods with weak water and sanitation infrastructure. Efforts made by the government to curb the disease are commendable.

A good deed never gets unrewarded

What do you understand when the word good deed pop up in your mind? A good deed is helping someone without looking for a reward or a pat on the back. But there’s also a negative aspect to doing a courteous act as some people do a certain good for someone in expectation of a reward, that they must get something in return of their good deed. So, in my opinion, we shouldn’t ever direct our actions towards gaining rewards. We should only have faith in God to reward us for our courteous deeds. Most people are rewarded for their good deeds in a variety of ways but some aren’t. However, even if one doesn’t get rewarded, no matter what, an act of kindness will most definitely make you feel good. And that, in my perspective, is reward enough. Another act of despair on part of people who do a certain good deed is that sometimes a person finds himself filled with self-admiration or showing off after doing a good deed or act of worship. People should prevent themselves from boosting. Does showing off bring more good deeds into the world? Is your motivation in “showing off” to be admired or to inspire?
