The Riverdale star talks about her nighttime skincare regime

You may know Camila Mendes as the fiery character Veronica on Riverdale. Did you know she is also a vigilant skin care fiend. Here’s some secrets from the star.

Cleansing – Washing your face

As with any good skin care routine, the first step is to get rid of the day’s grime, dirt, oil and makeup, which Mendes does with Burt's Bee's makeup remover wipes. "I don't love using makeup wipes, because I feel like it's rubbing paper on your face," she says. "But also, I think they just work the fastest, and I ain't got time to waste."

Better yet, try double cleansing, which involves using makeup remover wipes or a cleansing oil to dissolve your makeup and then washing your face again with your regular cleanser. The second step is to use a face wash to remove all the grime you loosened up on the first step. This leaves your skin fresh and perfectly prepped to absorb your skin regimen.

Moisturising & Hydrating

"My skin is pretty balanced," says Mendes, "but it does get on the drier side, so I think I just try to layer on as much moisturiser as I can."

Some people use the same moisturiser in the day and at night. However, night moisturisers or night creams are generally thicker and heavier, and designed to be absorbed over the course of several hours. Moisturiser, particularly the heavier ones used at night, create a protective coating on the skin to prevent water evaporation while you sleep. Maintaining a high water content in the skin is key for healing and maintaining healthy skin.”

Because of all of the stylists, the make-up teams and, of course, the photoshop, it's easy to forget that celebrities are human beings who can occasionally suffer an outbreak of spots, too. Yep you heard it here first, celebs can have flaws! Mendes adds that working on Riverdale has negatively led to consequences for her skin. "Just 'cause the schedule, and that with the lack of sleep and the long days, your skin just really reacts," she says. "I went from being someone with really easy skin, and I think, comparatively, my skin is pretty chill, but I break out a lot more than I ever did when I was growing up."

To combat the more frequent breakouts, Mendes makes use of skin care goodies like Renée Rouleau's Rapid Response Detox Cleanser, Detox Masque, the Triple Berry Smoothing Peel, and more.

Antiperspirants for night?

According to Mendes, deodorants or antiperspirants should be applied at night. Mendes says after she cleanses her face and is done with the rest of her nightly skin care routine she applies her antiperspirant. Yes, at night. This is Mendes's most unusual beauty hack. "I've heard that it's actually more effective to put it on at night. Then it actually works into your body. By the time you wake up it has done its work," says the actress, who works with Secret on their new line of essential oil-infused deodorants.

Well, Mendes does have a point as according to dermatologists, your sweat glands become dormant in the evening which means that your product can be more effective as it can absorb better.
