Rija Bakhtiar, though currently pursuing PhD in sociology, is also passionate about makeup on another level. Five minutes to get dressed and aiming for the no makeup look? Rija has a tutorial for you! In an exclusive chat with MAG, the makeup artist walks us through the perfect no makeup tutorial. Try it for yourselves!

Step 1: Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise!

I have used Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel moisturiser because I have a combination skin. It instantly quenches dry skin and keeps it looking smooth, supple and hydrated day after day. Since, it's super hydrating but non-oily, this is a great choice for all skin types.

Tip: Apply a pea-sized amount all over the face; you want to make sure your skin is soft and hydrated so your makeup sits right but isn't greasy.

Step 2: Dab on concealer

Next, use concealer on any areas you want a little extra coverage, like under your eyes, around your nose, or on any blemishes you might have. I have used Tart Shape Tape concealer in the shade medium honey and it’s the best concealer so far in terms of texture and coverage.

Tip: Taking a small brush, apply concealer sparingly to problem areas, this technique is called micro concealing. For dark circles, swipe the brush under your eyes, then pat with a finger to blend.

Step 3: Apply foundation

The real starting point of any no makeup, makeup look is a natural-looking, glowing skin tone – which you can get by using a foundation. I have used Mac Studio Fix powder foundation in the shade NC 25. It is perfect for those who need minimum coverage with a long lasting result.

Step 4: Create a natural-looking contour

For contouring, I have used Benefit Hoola bronzer. I love how it gives such a natural contoured look with an easy to blend formula.

Tip: Grab a fluffy brush and apply it to the hollows of your cheeks, along the outer edge of your jawline and forehead, and down the sides of your nose, as well as just under your bottom lip.

Step 5: Craft a dewy highlighter

To finesse a natural glow, I have used Mac Oh Darling highlighter.

Tip: Use your finger to pat the highlighter from the palette onto your cheekbones, so you look like you’re being lit up from all the right angles.

Step 6: Perk up your peepers

I have used Too Faced Better than Sex to give more volume to my lashes. It’s an intensely black voluptuous volume mascara for defined, multidimensional lashes.

Tip: To avoid clumps, brush your lashes with a small brush after applying the mascara.

Step 7: Seal it with a kiss

Even when you’re not wearing makeup your lips likely have a little colour, so why not play that up. For a matte lip, I have swiped on my all time favourite Huda Beauty Liquid Matte in the shade Icon.
