In 91 years of record-keeping, a mountain in New Hampshire famed for its harsh weather conditions experienced its snowiest June. According to the Mount Washington Observatory, Saturday's snowfall on Mount Washington boosted the month's total to 8.4 inches (21.3 centimetres) of snow. But by early Monday, almost all of it had melted due to a return to warmer temperatures. According to statistics, the observatory stated on Facebook, the last snowfall of the season usually happens in early to mid-June most years. Every day of the month, snowfall was brought early by a quasi-stationary low that was positioned over the area. “With another low and cold air approaching in the days ahead, we could see that total grow further,” the observatory said in a statement. The observatory is at the summit of the Northeast’s highest mountain, at 6,288 feet (1,916.5 meters).
