On July 25, Peggy Jones was mowing the six-acre property owned by her family in Silsbee, Texas while riding a tractor. She was unaware of the threat looming in the sky above. Three hours into the task, around eight o'clock, a snake dropped from the sky and swiftly coiled itself around her right forearm. She was attacked once more shortly after that, this time by a hawk aiming to recover the prey it had just misplaced. The snake was wrapped around Jones' forearm, and when the hawk attempted to take off with its prey, it slashed, scraped, and clawed at her arm. The snake, which she estimated to be at least four feet long, kept slashing at her face nonstop the entire time. It struck her spectacles at least twice, chipping the edge and spitting what she believes to be venom. After a brief pause, the brown-and-white hawk resumed its attack on Jones by swooping down and hovering a few feet over the ground. She claimed the bird attacked four times, each time becoming more severe. I'm screaming during this whole time, 'Help me, Jesus! Please, help me, Jesus!'" she said. Finally, the hawk wrestled the snake off her arm and flew away. Jones estimates the attack lasted a few seconds, although "it felt like an eternity."
