Major clothing brands Elan and Zaha censured for failing to pay workers

Big brands have talked for decades about their commitment to workers’ rights, but millions of people who make our clothes either still don’t earn enough to live off or are not even paid their legal wages. Two such brands that came under fire recently for their failure to pay the workers are Elan and Zaha. Khadija Shah, the owner of both the brands, was accused all over social media by models, photographers and employees for her refusal of payments despite major profits. Two models, Atika Gardezi and Abeera Riaz, took to their Instagram to address the issue. “If you think I’m wrong or arrogant for asking for my payments then don’t work with me. We ourselves feel embarrassed, naming, and shaming brands like this but some of them are so shameless, that they leave us with no choice. Hint, it’s just one brand that has two brands in it,” posted Riaz on her Instagram story. While Gardezi shared a picture of herself from the brand’s campaign she modelled for and said, “Mere paise kidher hain, Zaha?” Model Mydah Raza also posted on her Instagram that “Elan/Zaha don’t pay their models, videographers and employees.”
