The music industry is dominated by powerful women, whether that be the record-breaking songs coming from veterans like Abida Parveen or the new age artists like Aima Baig. In keeping with its one-year anniversary in Pakistan, streaming giant Spotify offered a list of female artists to keep an eye on. Sharing exciting insights about women in our industry, Spotify revealed Pakistan’s top five breakout women artists. It showed us the talent our women possess and highlighted the significance of bringing forward women voices for the diversification and growth of the Pakistani music industry. Hareem Rashid, Nirmal Roy, Annural Khalid, Farheen Raza Jaffry and Yashal Shahid are amongst the Swedish audio platform’s top breakout women artists this year, and we should pay very close attention to them. Indeed, the entry of Spotify has been a silver lining for women artists in Pakistan. While the musical fraternity struggles to provide prospects for emerging new talents, it wouldn't be far-fetched to say that music has become more inclusive with the entry of this audio streaming platform in the country.
